Frequently Asked Questions

Donations for Black Doctors Matter.

Almost 54,000 new Black doctors are needed compared to over 45 million Black people in America. Your donation helps PrME build the pipeline for more Black doctors to come to practice medicine. As Dr. Kizzmekia Corbett demonstrated with her contributiuons to the vaccine for COVID-19, the greater the diversity of practitioners, the better the outcomes for medicine. Please give today.

Why a goal for new Black doctors?

The American Association of Medical Colleges reported just over 900,000 practicing doctors (2018). Of those reporting just over 45,500 identified as Black. PrME seeks to increase that number to be in line with the percentage of Blacks in the U.S. population, 13.6%, or over 45 million people. To reach that goal nearly 54,000 new practicing physicians need to be added. 15 years is not a long time. Sadly, for many, it’s less thana lifetime.

How Your Donations Are Used

Three friends from high school started Premedical Explorers, Inc. in 2021 the December 2021 death of another high school friend, Dr. Susan Moore, a Black female medical doctor. Susan recorded a bedside testimonial detailing her story about an eggregious lack of professional respect and disingenuous care provided during the height of the pandemic. She stated that had she a Black doctor, she would have received the care and courtesy needed in what would prove to become her last days.

With two Black female doctors leading our efforts, we know that mentorship and scholarship are key to building a pipeline from uncertainty to medical school completion and beyond. PrME launched by building programming for high school age students beginning Fall ’21. PrME is developing programming for pre-med and medical school students. PrME continues to develop new programming and partnerships to achieve our end goal.

PrME is grant-seeking as another means to fund our programming, but as the Campaign for Change proved, those twos and fews make a significant difference in the bottom line as well as the belief that a change is coming — soon.
