Programs

Everything starts with your interest in medicine. The Premedical Explorers Program guides you through the process of becoming a medical doctor. PrME uses a variety of programming and partnerships to prepare students for pre-med programs and medical schools.

Program Details

Each year, PrME builds a learning cohort of students; a small team connected by remote learning. Using peer-to-peer mentorship, PrME raises the aptitude of the team while the students keep each other motivated and accountable.

Then, mentorship is wrapped around the cohort, as well as each individual student. PrME pairs each student with a Black physician mentor. Mentorship is one of the key determinants in the overall success of medical students. Meanwhile, Black physicians lead online demonstrations and conversations about instructional curriculum related to applications and the Medical College Aptitude Test (MCAT).

Last, PrME supports parents, guardians, and school personnel in developing competencies needed for ongoing academic success. Parents need to understand their role in the development of a doctor. The question is never; Can they succeed? It is; What is needed in this situation?

PrME will help each student explorer develop your professional presentation style. Presentations are necessary in both pre-med and med school. Mentors can show you ticks to notetaking, memorization, prioritizing, and life management.

PrME will also share with parents information and resources needed to fund and maintain the journey. Money is a constant obstacle, and parents working in partnership with their student achieve greater success every time!

What does the student explorer get out of PrME?

PrME coaches you to achieve during: test taking, essay writing, scholarship applications, internships, job shadowing, personal development, and more!

Each year, PrME elevates the cohort and the explorer in the areas of achievement needed for pre-med and med school. With each level of attainment on the pathway to a pre-med program, PrME lays more foundation for the pipeline to med school. During each stage, PrME continues to provide needed information, support, and resources to maintain course towards that famed white coat ceremony

Frequently Asked Questions

Is PrME right for me?

The team at PrME researched teaching methods, learning styles, mentor matching, and distance learning in preparartion for delivery of services. We have also leaned on the experiences of Dr. Angela and Dr. Monica on what they wished they knew then, and our Explorers become the beneficiary of that hidden knowledge in advance.

Is there a fee to attend PrME?

No fee exisits for student explorers to attend or participate in any of our programming.

Can I request a mentor, but not be a part of PrME?

The short answer is no. PrME uses data and relationship management in selecting mentors for Explorers. We are not simply a matching service.

Can PrME come to my school?

Yes. Our program is remote-learning based with limited face-to-face interaction.

Will PrME focus on other populations besides Black?

The PrME mission will always be to eradicate the disparity of Black medical doctors. However, we do recognize that other groups may benefit from our porgarmming. In the future, PrME will have conversations with those groups on how best to help erase their health disparities.

Why does PrME involve my parents if I am the one who is going to med school?

PrME has done the homework. Students with highly engaged and knowledgeable home support fare significantly better in the completion of an advanced medical degree than those less engaged.

Will PrME help pay for med school?

PrME will help Explorers locate resources known and lesser known to fund a medical school education. PrME will also fundraise for the purpose of scholarship. PrME will also aid in the preparation to apply to medical schools and pre-medical programs.

PrME Development

Upcoming programming will be available to augment  reading, writing, and comprehension skills in preparation for pre-med college applications.

PrME also teaches how to study. Getting through medical school requires much more than listening to a lecture or reading a text once. From the people who already made it, our doctors and your mentors, PrME will teach you the methods of successful study habits that will keep your grades medical school eligible.

PrME will also continue to work with each cohort, student explorer, parent, and mentor team through applications, acceptances, aid, and academics. PrME wants to see more than 98,000 new Black doctors enter the medical field in the next 15 years.
